Suntec Singapore Awarded Plaque Of Commendation At May Day Awards 2018
5 May 2018 - Suntec Singapore was conferred the Plaque of Commendation (Gold) at the May Day Awards 2018, organised by the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC).
The award recognises the significant contribution of Suntec Singapore to the labour movement. The organisation was commended in the May Day Citation for being an inclusive employer; championing employee welfare programmes and forging strong ties with the Building Construction and Timber Industries Employees' Union (BATU).
When Suntec Singapore underwent its 8-months modernisation programme to redevelop its facility in 2012, there were no employee layoffs or reduction in salaries. During this time, employees were sent for training and exchange programmes with partnering hoteliers for upskilling courses which kept them engaged over the lull period.
Recent initiatives include retention of the mature workforce and increased benefits in the Collective Agreement (CA). Suntec Singapore explored the Age Management Grant under WorkPro, which has benefitted 47.5% of its mature employees. Re-employed staff saw their leave increase to a maximum of 18 days instead of being reset. The organisation also agreed to increase the scope of union representation to include executives, senior executives and assistant managers. This covers up to 31% of the entire workforce at the organisation.
Through the years, Suntec Singapore has remained committed to fostering stronger union-management relations.
“Our organisation engages BATU regularly to keep them updated on employee initiatives and issues to garner their support and feedback to better serve our employees. This is done through briefings, communication sessions and joint union-staff events where we listen, propose and implement programmes supported by the union for greater employee engagement and success of our company,” said Arun Madhok, CEO of Suntec Singapore.
In 2015, Suntec Singapore HR Director Grace Yang received the May Day model award (HR category).
